research our  collection

over 9,000 records of veteran's service

Veterans Collection

The Elgin Military Museum has a collection of records for over 9,000 veterans from Elgin County and those who have lived there for a period of time. We document Elgin County military involvement from the turn of the 19th century to present day military activities. If you have relatives who are connected to Elgin County that were in the Armed Services or are currently serving, please let us know.

The collections feature a number of finding aids for those who choose to visit. Museum staff will be happy to get you started. Researchers begin their search in the Hall of Honour where reference binders hold copies of the original materials stored elsewhere in the museum.

There are also numerous other resource materials in our Reference Library.

The Hall of Honour provides a comfortable and inspiring work space in which to consult our veteran’s records binders. This space is newly renovated and some of the displays are still awaiting backing material so the remaining items can be put in place.  You can see that our binders are well used; new ones of a uniform style are on our wish list.

Original materials are stored away for their protection and copies are provided in easy to access binders.
