Sports and Social Activities Association
Events were designed to provide fun and entertainment for everyone. This Field Day programme, July 31, 1943, included some unusual categories- such as - 75 yard dash - for officers in uniform; 50 yard race for bands playing instruments, musical chairs and that old standby - thread the needle!
These images came into the Elgin Military Museum Collection through a donation of photo albums and ephemera from the late Lance Corporal Iris (Hey) Cockell, Canadian Women's Army Corps. Iris joined the Canadian Women’s Army Corp (CWAC), and served as a Munitions Clerk in England during the blitz and then in France and Belgium – many of her assigned placements were primary targets for enemy bombers.
